Sabres sign Conboy, Stanley Cup imminent.

In a league that increasingly demands speed and offensive talent in exchange for victories, the Buffalo Sabres have acquired Tim Conboy.  His 2009-2010 stats with the Carolina Hurricanes: 12 games played, 0 goals, 0 assists and 24 penalty minutes. Sabres fans who were hoping for the names Kaberle or Kovalchuk after the phrase “Sabres sign…” will no doubt be scratching their heads with the latest acquisition of a 6’2, 210 lb. right winger known for his ability to rack up penalty minutes rather than power play goals.

The further away from the July 1st open of NHL free agency the Sabres get without any significant improvement to the roster, the more obvious it seems that Darcy Regier and the Sabres front office are content with putting out a slightly above average NHL product instead of a legitimate Cup contender. Fortune favors the bold and its time for the team to take some chances and spend money on proven talent and abandon the mindset that has led to a decade of mediocrity.
