Buffalo Sports Fans: From Sea to Shining Sea

Welcome to the All Buffalo Sports Blog.  I was inspired to create this blog due to something that occurred while I was hiking with my girlfriend today.  I’ll get to that later, but first a little about me.  My name is Dan Boland, I’m 26 years old and currently live in San Diego, CA.  I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York and lived there until I was 23 years old.  More specifically I grew up in the suburb of Cheektowaga, or Cheek-TA-Vegas as it is more affectionately known.  I went to school at Saint Mary’s Elementary School in Lancaster, then Saint Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Kenmore and finally rounded out my educational experience at the University at Buffalo.  I’ve been a die hard Buffalo sports fan approximately since the age of 0, and although my current city of residence is no longer in Western New York, my affection for Buffalo sports teams has never wavered.

I was never a superstar athlete but rather slightly above average at several sports.  I’ve always loved competing in athletics and I’ve played several organized sports ranging from ice hockey, baseball, rowing, cross country running and volleyball.  My passion for playing sports is surpassed only by my passion for being a fan of Buffalo sports teams.  When I lived in the Buffalo area, I would do whatever I could to attend as many Bills, Bisons, Sabres, UB, Niagara and local high school games as humanly possible.  When my career brought be to San Diego, it was no longer possible for me to attend most of these events in person so I have transitioned to becoming a long-distance Buffalo fanatic.  With the help of NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, WGR 550 streaming online and several other Buffalo sports focused websites, I have been able to keep up to date on all the happenings in the Buffalo Sports Universe.  So, the obvious question – why create a blog about Buffalo sports?

While I was climbing the bluffs of the Torrey Pines State Reserve overlooking the Pacific Ocean today, I noticed a guy walking in the opposite direction with a familiar looking baseball cap on.  As he got closer, I noticed it was a Buffalo Bills hat and as he approached I asked “You from Buffalo?” and he responded “Yes, sir!”  I told him the same was true for me and he responded as only a true Buffalonian would: “Go Bills!”  As we continued walking in our opposite directions, I reflected on what had just transpired.  I was out hiking on a trail in one the Westernmost points in the United States and I happened to encounter a former Buffalo resident and Bills fan some 2,594 miles away from Buffalo’s city limits.  It dawned on me how far and wide the network of Buffalo sports fans extended and how great it would be to create a blog focusing solely on Buffalo sports teams.  I could not only share my passion, opinions and commentary on the Buffalo sports scene but also provide one spot for scores, news and useful information on all of Buffalo’s sports teams.  These will be the goals of the All Buffalo Sports Blog and I will strive to continuously improve the site and respond to any comments and suggestions offered by you, the readers.  Welcome, to the All Buffalo Sports Blog and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any suggestions or to respond to any of my blogs.  Differing opinions and views are welcomed but inappropriate language or harassing comments will be blocked.
